Honoring Tom Fabitz

December 5, 2023

The Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial and Education Center is the culmination of many years of hard work by dedicated team members dating back to 2011.

Sadly, the Board of Directors of Kewaskum Remembers 9/11 Inc., is mourning the loss of board member, Tomas E. Fabitz . After a long and courageous battle with pancreatic and liver cancer, Tom passed away on November 30th , 2023.

Tom was one of the founding members of Kewaskum Remembers 9/11. He was a longtime community leader who, from the beginning, strongly believed in the importance and relevancy of the 9/11 Memorial being located in the community of Kewaskum and was instrumental in conceiving, planning, and raising the necessary funds needed to construct this memorial.

Tom, a Marine Corp veteran, strongly believed that recognition of Kewaskum veterans at the Memorial was of prime importance. He was deeply involved and influential in the planning of the prominent tribute we have honoring our veterans and service members of our nations Armed Forces at the Memorial. Tom a member of American Legion Post 384 in Kewaskum coordinated the military honor guard events held at the Memorial.

From the beginning he brought to our organization enthusiasm and the Marine Corp attitude that whatever problems we faced we could solve them. Whether it was organizing a parade, transporting the steel beam to numerous events throughout Washington County, cooking hamburgers and brats for a fundraiser, and making sure our flags flew proudly and correct; Tom was always there.

Tom was extremely proud to have served his country and to have been involved in the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial and Education Center. Tom was preceded in death by two of our other founding members, Larry Ammel (2017) and Gerald Gosa Jr. (2021).
